Therapies: There is a rapidly growing interest in a new arena of medicine which is being called "Anti-Aging Medicine." "Anti-aging medicine" is not really new of course, Ponce DeLeon discovered Florida while searching for the proverbial fountain of youth. Anti-aging medicine is a new term for an old game, that is, preventing the onset of chronic degenerative disease. JAMA in Oct 97 issue indicated that over
100 million Large number of baby boomers heading into their fifth generation is driving the push for anti-aging medicine. These baby boomers have no desire to stop working, they intend to stay young and to work longer and play harder. SOMETHING FOR SENIORS Modern medicine has developed over the last 100 years, becoming very effective at controlling acute illness and disease. Public refrigeration and sanitation along with antibiotic therapy has greatly diminished illness and death due to acute infections. Also, with the technology advances in trauma care-including emergency response as well as trauma surgery - death from acute traumas has also been greatly diminished. These advances in modern medicine have created a large aging population with a desperate need for medical therapies that can slow down and help prevent the aging and disease process. So, the anti-aging therapies have a wider application base for the young and older generations. THE PROCESS At the Center for Advanced Medicine in Encinitas, CA., we practice anti-aging medicine by combining time tested natural and nutritional therapies along with the newest medical discoveries to slow down and reverse the aging process and chronic degenerative disease. Particular attention is paid to cleansing and detoxifying the body of various pollutants and toxic compounds, which have been accumulating over a lifetime. The cleansing process is achieved using various nutritional as well as herbal compounds to cleanse particular organ systems, in addition various modalities such as detox baths, lymphatic massage, as well as colon hydrotherapy and sauna therapy are used to help the body eliminate toxic compounds. Chelation therapy is used as a treatment in order to rid the body of toxic heavy metals, as well as to prevent the calcification of soft tissue and arteries which is a part of the aging process, It also improves circulation throughout the body and in vital organs such as heart, kidney, and central nervous system. A comprehensive nutritional assessment as well as supplementation program is used to help achieve anti-aging effects. Since the body must have proper nutrition in order to function properly and stay free of disease a nutritional program using both the choices along with supplementation is a critical component. If there are any disease conditions which already exist, such as arthritis, intestinal problems or circulatory problems, then the combined approach of removing toxic suppressors as well as nourishing the body can help restore proper function and bring these disease conditions towards balance. A complete anti-aging program could include
hormone Hormone replacement therapy is now being
done for both Often times hormones are given in the form of creams which pass into the circulation through the skin and do not need to be metabolized in the liver which sometimes places a burden on the liver. One of the most exciting new developments in hormone replacement is the use of growth hormone. Growth hormone can be administered in various ways. The most powerful way is the use of pharmaceutical grown hormone which is an injectible and is taken either daily or several times weekly. In addition to injectible growth hormone there are various growth hormone releasing factors which are nutritional products that are taken by mouth. These nutritional products although not as powerful as the injectible growth hormone, offer similar benefits of enhancing health and increasing vitality. In looking at an anti-aging program it is important to look for one that is comprehensive and tailored to your specific needs. Critical to any program is removing toxic suppressors from the body as well as fortifying the body with proper nutrient support. In addition, specific nutritional remedies are given to correct disease conditions which are already in place. Finally hormone replacement therapy is added to help restore proper function. Anti-Aging therapies are allowing individuals
to look good, feel good and stay healthier which is providing a stronger
and more productive work force. Dr. Mark Drucker, MD is the co-founder of the Center for Advanced Medicine in Encinitas, CA.
